Welcome to the guest photographer section of the website! If you would like to take some photos for and be featured on edgeofurge.com, send an email to ask@edgeofurge.com with a link to your work. We look forward to hearing from you! Currently, our featured guest photographer is:

"I am Wilmington NC native. I graduated from UNCW with a degree in Studio Art. My focus was on Photography and Graphic Design. I still enjoy drawing, painting & other art in my spare time. I enjoy being active, mainly surfing or swimming. I value the feeling of 'new' brought on by travel. The more the extreme the culture difference the better. I appreciate storytelling no matter what the medium; movies, photography, writing, etc. It's all art. I love observing, understanding and creating art. I married my high school sweetheart. I write down my 'brilliant' ideas to remember them. I can find some sort of humor in everything. Some people think this is disturbing. Photography is my occupation but I don't want to be labeled a certain type of photographer. I shoot a lot of weddings, surfing, people, nature, fashion....a little bit of everything. I think it's important to stay informed as to what is fresh in the world style wise for whatever you are into. Oh yeah and I secretly want to be a pirate."

So, that last line of Keith Ketchum’s bio might have made some of us have secret crushes on him, (don’t tell!) but alas our lovable local photog only has eyes for his new wifey, Bimini. (check her out, she is one of the models!)

Keith Ketchum is a self proclaimed ‘movie guy.’ When he came to us about being the featured photographer he already had the idea for this shoot all worked out in his head.

He was inspired by the vivid romanticism of the movie Sin City. Its juxtaposition of film noir with modern day wardrobe and its bursts of color in a black and white world caught Keith as a wonderful medium for a fashion shoot. As Keith says, ‘whether you are a comic book buff or not, there is no denying that this movie pops off the screen.’ And we agree with him.

To best mimic the movie style, Keith shot all models and clothing individually in his studio in front of a solid backdrop separately from his outdoor background shots. He therefore had to use the same lighting techniques in all of the shoots, whether shooting in studio or outside. And we LOVE that he used our downtown Wilmington neighborhood for all of the backdrops of the shoot. Who knew our town could look so cruel? (well, really, any of us who have walked to our car on 3rd alone after dark.)

Editing can be a daunting process, and Keith knew from the beginning that this would be a main component of this shoot. He knew that digital editing would be completely necessary for the concept of creating a picture based on a live action movie that is based on a graphic novel – a picture of life imitating art imitating life. The seamless quality of the end results shows Keith’s proficiency in editing.

We are so very happy to present the bad-ass fashion stylings of Keith Ketchum, our latest featured photographer. Rah!
