So we sat down with this month's guest photog, the lively Terry Rivenbark, and asked him a few questions about fashion, photography, and general randomness. As always, he did not fail to impress. We heart him and all of his amazing pictures.
Q: What inspires you right now?
umm… at the current moment, dance parties and extreme lighting.
Q: What would you call your style?
I don’t think there is a word that exists. It lies somewhere between chaotic and interesting.
Q: What is your favorite EoU fix?
You mean besides the foxy Jessie Williams? My black ripped Blank jeans. They’re seeks! I think I can dominate the world in those jeans. Just sayin’…
Q: What is your favorite moment during EoU photo shoot?
Bonding with the models! They are all amazing people.
Q: Tell us some about the method you use to get the best picture of a person, or about how you interact with your subjects.
My major goal in a photo shoot is for the person I’m working with to feel at complete ease with me. There has to be a foundation of trust between a photographer and their subject. If the person is comfortable with their photographer, they become less inhibited, and beautiful images are produced.
Q: People think of photography as a point, click, and poof(!) picture, almost more of a science than an art. What do you think about this?
I don’t think it would be appropriate for me to say aloud.
Q: When and where do you do your best work? (under what conditions)
It’s so funny to me because, I get my best ideas when I’m in bed and about to fall asleep! It never fails. I guess it’s the one time during the day that I’m not really thinking about anything and so, my mind has freedom to roam. I have even started to leave a notebook and pen on my bed stand just so I can jot them down.
Q: Where do you see you and your art in 10 years?
Ten Years? Okay. I will be head fashion photographer for a progressive fashion magazine. Just throwing that out into the cosmic stream.
Q: If you could photograph anyone, who would it be?
Oh gosh… anyone? This is going to be a hard... My grandfather. I think our family may have two existing photos of him. He passed away when my father was young, so I know it would mean a lot to him.
Q: Tell us one of your more interesting, or most unpredictable experience taking pictures.
I have a couple of ridiculous stories. Which one shall I tell? Okay, last year, I was hired by a couple to shoot a "love story" session out in the country on their family farm. At one point during the session, I had the couple jump up on a fence so I could get a shot with their pigs in the background. The flash from my camera startled one of the pigs and he charged the fence. Babe hit the fence so hard, it knocked the women flat on her ass in the mud. It was the most horrifying moment of my life. Who knew hogs could be so aggressive?!
Q: Do you have a fashion photographer icon?
Oh, god! I don’t think you can get any better than Patrick Demarchelier and Steven Meisel. The impact they’ve made in the fashion photography world is unheard of. Every time I see one of their images, I just stare at it in awe.
Q: Who would you most love to work with as a model?
Coco Rocha! Hands down. She is the most versatile model I have ever seen! She’s so edgy and a complete chameleon. And she loves to dance!!! I would die. Ugh, should I go on? Ha!
Q: Do you have any other hidden talents?
YES! I can eat a whole medium pizza by myself and not gain a POUND! True story. Don’t be jealous, it’s a gift.
(EoU staff has seen this take place. Rumor has it he can eat a whole cake in one sitting, too. We kinda wanna throw him out the window for it.)
