Welcome to the guest photographer section of the website! If you would like to take some photos for and be featured on edgeofurge.com, send an email to ask@edgeofurge.com with a link to your work. We look forward to hearing from you! This month's guest photographer is:
Our first guest photographer hails from Manhattan, NY, where she works and lives with her (awesome) cat.
Kate's work is at times whimsical, with fairy tales and a collaged ephemeral look. At times a little more stark, like with her Self Portrait 295.3x series, where she photographed an abandoned state hospital in Annapolis, Maryland.
Whether fanciful or serious, Kate's work manages to maintain a constant air of significance.
From her website (open in new window):
"Photography is a medium that appeals to the scientist in me; the person who wants to mix chemicals and watch things transform. I collect specimens and examine them several times until I am most satisfied with the result. Variables change but the one constant in my work is creating a self-portrait even if that means not using my own image.
"The 'Loneliness of Fairy Tales' is an examination of
my most personal thoughts in a photographic medium. I see them all as small still lives that were created only to be photograhed.
Many people ask me why I decided to articulate my journal entries through photography. Honestly, I'm not much of a writer, just writing this is painfully tedious and unbearably stressful so using the medium I am most comfortable with made the most logical sense to me.
"Each of the entries is not dependent on the illustration and the illustration is not dependent on the text. They compliment each other to give a better understanding of how I was exactly feeling. They are honest and whimsical and just exactly how I see myself."
