This featured musician shoot may have been the most demanding and difficult
few days we've ever had to put in for any of our band shoots. It was tough!
Everything had to be perfect - - first, we had to redecorate the bathroom. It just
wouldn't be right until there was a pink tinsel Christmas tree in the shower. And
then we had to pick out the perfect outfits that we were sure would make Cazwell
want to marry us - all of us. And then we had to brush up on his oeuvre so that
we would be able to have an intellectual conversation about it. Really - that was
the roughest part. We must've watched his 'Ice Cream Truck' video about 50
times so we could ruminate on the subtle use of sub-zero treats as a medium for
subtext in a ---a-- aaaa, ummm, yeah. I'm not even gonna try on that one. So sue
us if we just can't stop watching a lot of hot guys dancing around, half naked and
having one hell of a good time. Smiling, dancing, sweating, dancing.... Oh, the
things we do for research.
The evening of the shoot arrives, and Cazwell is here and on his way upstairs
- YAY! The first thing you notice about him when he walks in the room is the
smile. Just like all of the boys in his video, he's happy and quick with a laugh. The
ease with which he carries himself is immediately apparent, and I'm not sure if
I've ever met someone who is as comfortable in their own skin as he is. And it's
contagious -he automatically put us all at ease - photogs, stylists, interviewers.
Granted, there might have been one or two people that still couldn’t hide their
teenage crush enthusiasm, but what do you expect. The man bedazzles his own
Gym shorts for Pete’s sake. How can you not love him?
So, all of the buildup made for a wonderful shoot and fun was had all around.
We are all claiming him as our new BFF, which is easy to do after an hour with
him. And, now that I think of it, maybe it was not just his friendly air and instant
snuggle-y-ness that made us so very at ease - it could have been a combination
of that and the fact a few of us were able to help ourselves to a bit of the yummy
liquid courage before everyone got here. (Yes, we do keep some on hand here,
specifically for times like these - when hot muscle-y men stop by the shop to chat
with us and we need to steady ourselves so we don't fall down at their feet.)
One of the best parts was finding the perfect outfit to match Cazwell's style - no
normal t-shirt would do. We knew the gold sparkly fuck-yeah tee and our purple
NC tee would match his style, but they seemed to be missing something. Or, in
actuality, they seemed to have too much of something. Too much sleeve. You
just can’t have sleeves cover up guns like that. So, we cut them off – to a nice
effect, don’t you think? The purple NC tee looked so nice on him that we gave it
to him - a little remembrance of his visit to the dirty south. But the fuck-yeah tee?
That one, we decided to auction off for a good cause. Cazwell chose his favorite
charity - the American Cancer Society, and it is one that we love here at EoU as
well. Because, put simply, cancer sucks. So, if you want to help out a good cause,
and win a cut out tee that has been worn by Cazwell during our photo shoot (and
still kinda has his sweet, sweet smell) go to the Edge of Urge Ebay store (open in new window)
to join in on the auction fun.
So, check out the videos, listen to the songs -and be sure to check out his website
and keep an eye out for his new album that he is finishing up in the studio and
should be out soon!
