| "'I love songs and I love lyrics,' Doug Keith states. 'I don’t believe in throwaway songs, and I don’t believe that the single is the future. I love albums, and I love it when an artist or band thinks of an album as the thing itself, not just the vehicle for one or two songs.'
The New York singer/songwriter/guitarist more than lives up to those principles on The Lucky Ones, his second album under his own name. The 11-song collection, on his co-owned independent The Village Label, demonstrates Keith’s uncanny knack for capturing vividly intimate emotional truths in song.
Keith weaves those truths into understatedly eloquent songs, which he delivers with a weathered, expressive voice, nimble, blues-rooted guitar work and organically layered arrangements that effortlessly convey the emotional immediacy of his compositions. The material on The Lucky Ones ranges from the acoustic starkness of 'We Left Everything' to the surging electricity of 'The Lucky Ones' to the buoyant textures of 'Skip James Radio'; the common threads are the warmth and insight that the artist brings to every track."

While on his "So Low, Solo" tour, Doug Keith spent a whirlwind 24 hours in our fair port city. And while we are sure that he learned a lot about us and where we live (for example that there are more than 50 bars within a three block radius from our shop, but we will not tell how he found this out…) we also learned a good bit about him. So we decided to list our favorite fun facts about our favorite new guitar strummin’ puppy dog eyed featured musician. Here ya go…
Doug Keith Fun Facts
1. He is Fera’s new best friend. And Blue’s new best friend. And we are pretty sure that any dog would be happy to have him as a best friend. I think we all believe this mainly because quite often Doug was found on a couch, in the studio or at home, in the full throes of snuggle-lovin’ with one of our favorite sidekicks. There might have even been some wrasslin’.
2. He is scared of Jorts. (Jean shorts, for you uninitiated types.) Or, more particularly, he is scared of what his friends would say if he were to wear Jorts. We understand. It is a bold fashion statement. Not everyone is quite as ready to embrace the Jorts as much as Dusty has.
3. His wife Emily makes the best popcorn in the world. Really, it is amazing. And Doug is probably tired of hearing Katie say so.
4. He has the voice of an angel. A big burly angel.
5. He and his friend Chandra Johnson started their own record label, the Village Label. (thevillagelabel.com) You might know of Chandra from when she took the staff of Vogue to one of her husband’s events. Oh, yeah, her husband is standing NASCAR champion Jimmie Johnson. We love her for doing this.
6. He is a really, really nice guy. This, we have come to the conclusion, is
why he was constantly getting hooked up with free stuff in our town. Free ice cream with dinner, cheap hotel suites, free shirts from shop owners while he was wandering downtown. Or maybe he is a really good hypnotist, and none of us saw him doing it. Like the Mentalist.
7. His new album is released on March 30th. Why, yes, it is what you are listening to as you read this! A sneak peek, if you will. I know, we spoil you.
So now that you know a little more about Doug like we do, maybe you will love him just as much. Maybe you will wear one of his shirts around the office and sing his songs like Jessie does, or maybe you will put him on heavy rotation in your iPod. Whatever way you choose, we know Doug Keith’s infectious tunes will be a mainstay on your mixtapes from here on out.
