down and my hands in my pockets. Picking up groceries was close to last on the list of things I really wanted to do. I made my turns with careless ease, and browsed through sale items rather half-heartedly. To be honest, I had to reach into my pockets three or four times just to remember what I had come to get. I heard a kid screaming a couple aisles over and it made me laugh inside. I wondered what he wanted but was not getting, probably a cookie, or a balloon. I gazed around and decided simply to get something that would suffice. I really didn't care what it was so long as it kept me going. What I really wanted to be doing, if I could have ignored the pangs of hunger roaring from below, was dreaming. Maybe that sounds a little funny to you, but its true.
Dreams, my friends, are infants armed with potential. With quiet explosions they keep me up at night— No matter the magnitude of my exhaustion. They are ideas, filled with passion and drive. The y invade my thoughts and hold my heart captive. Dreams inspire. Dreams encourage.
The screaming kid was still performing on aisle 12, and had I paid to come and listen, I would have already been demanding my refund. I reached for a bag of ten-cent noodles and proceeded to check out. As I walked I thought of what would lie ahead:
Dreams don't come wrapped in bows and ribbons, you see. Dreams can carry on handbags the size of mountains. The journey is long. The journey is dangerous. And nobody said the risk was easy, or safe. But no adventure is ever safe.
So that's me—just another guy living on dreams and ten-cent noodles.
